I would settle with that shop and finish the job elsewhere. Radiator supports should not add that much money to the job.

Can you take it to another body shop or some place and get a second opinion?

If he agrees sure, but get it in writing.

He’s conning you though, take it somewhere else and get another evaluation and see.

But no matter what you owe him for all repairs (that you authorized) unless he further damaged your car. Read the papers you signed too, there are a lot of snags in those!

What the heck are you talking about? The mechanic doesn’t want your car title. He wants to be paid. Either pay for the repairs or take the car elsewhere. It does sound like he’s trying to rip you off, so I would get a couple of other estimates.

so the body shop guy deemed it unsafe… it’s your car tell him to shut up and fix what you want fixed or you’ll drive it as is… if everything is functional is should still pass inspection

If you no longer want the car, then you absolutely don’t HAVE to pay. The worst thing they can do is file a “mechanic’s lien” against your title for non payment. This will just allow them to obtain a new title to the car and re-sell it. Unfortunately, the car isn’t even worth over $6000.00 with a damaged title, so it certainly wouldn’t be worth it to pay that much.

    Good luck!! = )

The shop is taking you for a ride (pardon the pun). Pay them off and go elsewhere.

ok first a radiator support doesnt cost a grand brand new, and there wouldnt be too much more labor involved in changing it so I cant see the increase in price that much. Second, depending on what state your in, it doesnt matter what the front clip looks like as long as there is bumper solidly bolted to the front of th vehicle, has proper working headlights and turn signals. And hold a tag, again depending on what state your in. Now replacing the front clip even if it was destroyed wouldnt cost 3 grand either to replace. I strongly recommend you to tell them to do the job they were supposed to do and assemble the rest of the vehicle back to how it was and then payout as it is. This place sounds like they’re taking you for a ride, if you know what I mean. Hope this helps.

It seems to me that he is scamming you. Would this be termed correctly as a bait-and-switch? Further this crew might also be quite incompetent if they could not see this damage sooner. Maybe you could post a picture of your damage and someone with experience could comment? Also, it does not sound like a minor accident if your “Radiator Support” was smashed on both sides. I would go and see what they have done, and if all they’ve done is disassemble, make them put your car back together and pay for that only. I would probably not have repaired my car from a minor accident but then that depends on personal taste and tolerance, I suppose. Good luck!
