I’m having trouble remembering a Ford Ka. And as you put your vehicle’s monetary value in pounds, not dollars, I can only assume you live in Great Brittan. I have no idea as to how English insurance laws work. Nor if you have any witnesses or a video recording from a street lamp post. I would suggest you speak with your insurance agent BEFORE going on vacation.
Personally, I think your car stands a better than average chance to be written off. As you know it’s repair costs versus book value. It may very well be cheaper for the insurer to pay the amount you insured the car for rather than attempting a big repair to damage such as you describe.
I had a small Nissan Micra that was slightly bigger than your car. When I asked a local mechanic about doing some cylinder work on it, he basically told me that it was a ‘throw away car’ and wasn’t worth the repairs. Since he worked at a Honda dealership as a mechanic for many years, I valued his opinion.

Write off, but don’t expect to get Full value back, 2000 maybe.
