The front end of my car was totally smashed by some kid in his dad’s car. He was at fault for the accident. Will his insurance be responsible for paying for a rental car for me while my car is being repaired?
Also, we both happen to have American Family Insurance. So I guess that might help in the matters of getting this done sooner?

Most likely, yes. If you were fortunate to be involved with a driver that has insurance. You would not believe how many people drive without insurance!
However, be aware that you may have to pay for the rental first out of your own pocket and then be reimbursed by the other at fault insurance company. If the process is moving too slowly you can put the claim in with your own carrier, under your rental coverage and then your insurance company would subrogate (sue) the other at fault carrier to get the rental fees back. This would only work if you happen to carry loss of use (rental coverage) on your auto policy. Also, it is a good idea to report the accident to your insurance so that a claim may be made on your behalf. A good reason for this is lets say nothing arises out of this and a few months down the road the other party does more damage with another vehicle or object and tries to pin the new damages on you. You never know, he may not have even reported the accident to his insurance company.
Of course insurance may differ from state to state, so I would let your agent know what happened.
I hope I gave you some useful information. Good Luck!!

No matter who the other person is insured with, their liable for rental and any injuries involved. Under normal insurance practices your vehicle is repaired under your own policy without affecting it, unless you don’t have collision coverage as the insurance company would only be collecting from themselves.
