All she should have to pay is her deductible, the insurance company should pay for the repairs. I just had an accident, i owed about $2,500.00 on my car, the damage to my car was almost $6,000.00 and I was only responsible for my deductible. But the insurance company can also go after the car who hit your mom (if one did) to recover the out of pocket costs or recover their costs. Unless they do not feel like the car is worth repairing and then they will usually total it out and just give you the book value, but again will often try to recover the costs from the other vehicle’s company.

well, in the UK – the insurance company would consider this a write-off – basically because the cost of the repairs almost are the value of the car.

with the amount of the damages being almost as much as the car is worth, my bet would be on them totaling out your car.

They will pay you and your lien-holder the actual cash value and hopefully there will be something left over after your note is paid off to buy another car.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

No, they will not pay to have the vehicle repaired. Most insurers will total a vehicle if the cost to repair exceeds 70% of the cars value. If you are keeping the vehicle, then they are entitled to deduct the salvage value. I assume this was $1800.

If you keep the vehicle, you will have to file for a Salvage Title. This can be a headache. You cannot drive the vehicle until it passes inspection – depending on where you live.

Your Collision Coverage will be stripped until the vehicle is repaired.

I would not recommend buying back a totaled vehicle. There could be hidden damage that the appraiser did not find at the time of the original appraisal.
