My red MR2 was also rear ended and while it just looked like a little damage, when we finally got it down to the frame after doing a buy back we realized that 3 out of the 5 “Crumple Cuts” in the frame had been crushed.
Bad frame = DOA.
Unless you’ve got a lot in the engine, kiss it goodbye. They will let you remove personal effects before sending the car to the yard, and this includes grabbing the radio or whatever else. When I wrecked my corsica on a deer, I grabbed my aftermarket head unit out of there and left the stock radio on the driver seat. Insurance didn’t bat an eye.
You may be able to negotiate a repair rather than salvage by offering the difference, in you case $550, plus whatever your deductible is. I can’t see why they wouldn’t go for that. They have to give you the $2500 anyways. I believe you also have the right to have it towed(at your expense) to another “approved” shop for a second opinion. You can probably find a blown 87 Celica for under $1000 and have the engine rebuilt for about $1000 and go from there.
go to west coast customs
Your car has crumble zones.

The company has called it. You can take the money, get it fixed else where. It will have salvage title at this point, no legal way around that sorry.
