One hot sunny day in September, my girlfriend and I went out for a meal. As we having our meal, I noticed she was looking rather sullen. I asked her what the matter was. She continued to look miserable. I commented that we probably should have stayed at home. Seconds later, she jumped up, and flew out the restaurant upset. I followed moments later. As I got in her car we were both began to yell at each other. About a mile down the road, my girlfriend suddenly swerved the car to the side of the road. She quickly jumped out, locking me inside the car.
I called her to come back, she continued marching off. I kept calling her, hoping she would stop and turn around, she did not.
I was pulling at my door to get out, I frantically searched for a way out of the car, her door was locked. I looked at her windows, the sunroof, the buttons and knobs but it was useless the car was locked tight. I felt sealed in.
In the heat of the moment, I quickly put my two feet together, and pushed into the front window screen…it cracked. I then decided it might be safer to smash my passenger window side, so I did.
I was finally free, only to find that the police were arresting me for vandalism. My girlfriend had called the police.
I foolishly gave the police my story, but they did not believe that anyone could be locked inside the car. I explained I was locked in; the glass was on the inside of the car, indicating I was on the inside, not the outside.
Anyway, they handcuffed me and put me in jail. I spent 24 hours in jail, with now a felony hanging over me. I was finally released on $10, 000 bail. (which cost me $1,000) It was dropped thankfully by the District Attorney.
My girlfriend and I got back together, I forgave her for calling the police because I felt that she was scared or upset. I paid for her window repair of $600. A week later, she told me that the repair men had put the wrong BMW windows in. She wanted me to pay another $400 which I reluctantly did.
After the incident was all over with, my girlfriend secretly tried locking herself in the car (with the keys) she told me she couldn’t get out either!
I felt upset inside. I was made to feel like a criminal. Should I have sat in the car waiting for her to return, whilst it’s about sunny 85 degrees. Was I foolish to feel sorry for her, and get back together?
