Me and my girlfriend bought a laptop a year or so ago. Needless to say it’s seen better days since her cat jumping on it when it was half closed over the mouse smashed the screen a little. That was about 8 months ago. we both have desktops so it was pushed to the back of our things we need to spend money on list. The other day our roomate comes in saying that he is getting the laptop repaired and if its ok that he uses it(he went through 2 so far in about 6 months). Since he already took it to the repair shop and paid for it I felt I had to say yes even though…well that skips the point. the question I have is he restored everything to factory defaults and erased everything we had on there. and now everything on the computer is in his name not mine as it was. is there anything I can do to fix this or get any of my stuff back? we cant find the back up discs so they are not an option. its a sony Vaios with vista home premium

hello, please take a moment to read through this. any help would be greatly appreciated :D

ok so the other day when i booted my laptop, the pointer won’t move (i was using both the mouse and the touchpad, neither worked) then i tried rebooting it, hoping that it would fix the problem but when it rebooted, windows failed to start, so i was like wtf. i lost my repair disc, so i thought i was screwed. but no, there was still hope as there was an option to do a system restore and it worked and i can see my desktop again(yay!). but the problem remained, i still can’t move the pointer and i am frustrated at this point. i also noticed that everything in my security was turned off (antivirus, anti spyware, firewall, EVERYTHING) i tried navigating (with my keyboard, and yes it was still possible) to my norton and attempted a complete virus scan, and i was pressing start and it won’t run. this led me to the conclusion that my laptop is pretty much f*cked up (probably by trojans or any malware, i don’t know).

please help me as i love my laptop and i would not want to smash it against the wall.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505, & I’m not sure what happened, but somehow the screen came on this morning with a huge smash in the glass under the screen’s “skin”.

I’m not sure what you can do when this happens to a laptop .. is there a place I can go to repair this, or should I contact the manufacturer? If you can tell me about how much this will cost to repair, that’d be great too. Thanks for the input.
Nope. Apparently someone in my house may have dropped it on the floor or stepped on it. Not sure how else that can happen .. I didn’t smash it with a hammer or anything like that! =P

Ok, before I start I don’t want to hear anything about “I’m not going to help you commit insurance fraud!” If you feel that way then just skip over this question, please!
Ok, i have a dell that the warranty is about to run out on, it’s starting to get a bit old, so I decided that on the last month of my warranty I would add complete care…(Accidental Coverage) So I can have an “accident” and depending on how bad of an “accident” they would replace it with a newer model or just repair the existing old one that I have now. I obviously want a new comptuer. I have already told them that as I was getting out of the bathtub it fell from a high shelf while plugged in. and they said they will have a box sent to my address to ship my computer back to their facility the question here is will that warrant a new comp. or can they just replace the bad parts and send it back, or should I smash it some saying it happened on the fall? I really don’t think they investigate every claim. I think that I should smash it a bit just to make sure I get a newer and better computer, what do you guys think?

I have bought an HP Pavilion Tablet PC about 8 months. I really loved it but it gotten smashed really badly. The touch screen is cracked and broken all over. The CD drive is also not functioning and 3 or 4 keys are broken. However, other than that, it seems everything else works….. So what should I do? Should I repair it (and how) and if so, how much do you think it would cost? Also, I never bought the extended warranty so it doesnt cover accidental damage. Please tell me what I should do since it contained really important software and data.
