I just bought my first brand new car.. the 2010 Mitsu Lancer. I’m financing it and traded in my 2003 Cavalier, which saved me a few thousand dollars. I bought the car last Thursday night, and I didn’t have the title to my Cavalier with me so I had to go to the DMV the following morning to get a replacement title. I went in my new car! I got the title, got into my car in the parking lot, pulled out, got onto the main road in the parking lot and was driving between 5 and 10 mph heading towards the parking lot exit when I look to my right and see a car FLYING down one of the parking lanes right at me. I had no time to swerve because they were going so fast, and they ended up smashing in my front right wheel, door, and fender. This lady was horrible, she didn’t apologize and tried to lie to the cops, but they didn’t believe her because the way the cars were situated proved that she was at fault. The report was written up as her failure to yield, and now my brand new car has an accident on its history and is going to need major repairs.

Because the car is brand new, it’s pretty much guaranteed not to be totaled out, and even though her insurance (Geico) will pay for all the damage to my car, I can’t help feeling completely jipped because now my car is worth about half what I paid for it. I just can’t come to grips with the idea that my brand new car already has a major accident on it, which will permanently be on the car’s history. Is there any way that I can get a replacement vehicle? There’s probably about 10k in damage, plus probably 3k in diminished value, and the sticker price of the car was 18.5k.

I’m just really annoyed/upset/flustered… :(
