its safe to drive, as in it wont smash and blind you, but you need to be careful with police, if they pull you over with a long crack like that then they are within their rights to stop you driving until you repair it
put some kind of goggles, ski or diy glasses in the car, and the phone number of Autoglass. It will probably be OK but if the screen does go you will need to drive with a 50mph wind in your face! There is a certain speed at which most of the air will go over the car, between 40 and 50.
a long crack means the screen will need to be replaced, they won’t do a repair. People around here drive for years with a cracked screen but legally if it is in the area which the driver’s wiper blade sweeps it should be fixed.
The good thing is that a new screen is much clearer than the old one, we don’t notice all the little scratches until they aren’t there!
Hi, I’m guessing you are outside of the US; I am assuming you are referring to what we here call a “windshield” (?) If so, obviously your commute already sounds arduous and somewhat dangerous; add in a cracked windshield and IMO, you’re asking for trouble, perhaps (God forbid!) tragedy. No doubt it’s terribly expensive but hopefully if it is “thin” as you describe, it will not require full replacement, and I’ve seen cases where professional repair has made the crack virtually invisible! Not sure if that will be the outcome of yours, of course, but I’d start looking immediately for the best window repair shop in your town. Ask to see samples of their work, and remember you get what you pay for! I would not recommend driving the car until it is safely fixed, except perhaps a few short errands or emergencies. In the meantime, you may be able to fend off the scariest part of this question, the “completely smashing” bit by using something yourself like this product or similar:
Good luck, and be safe! You can replace your window, your car, your job…but there’s only one you, and you’re irreplaceable!
You can technically get pulled over for having a cracked windshield, but it’s pretty rare that they actually do (unless they are severely limiting visibility).
Car windshields are made of safety glass, which is coated on both sides – the glass may be cracked, but it won’t go anywhere.
The smart thing to do would be to get it replaced as soon as poss winshields are a integral part or thebody structure in most car now.It will not get any better.

I and many, many others have driven for years with a cracked windshield and never had a problem.
You will be fine but remember that in the UK if this is affecting the driver’s view of the road you can be stopped for this so drive safe…………….
It’s fine.
