The car was hit in the rear. And this, ur engine and the major components in front of the car is perfect. So I dont believe tthat it would have anything to with reliability. There wouldnt really be any major damage, i mean ur trunk, ur bumper, maybe a little bit or ur back seat if the hit went that far in. Your rear lights, maybe ur exhaust pipe. Make sure that if your exhaust pipe was damaged, that u check that it is repaired properly. As if there is a hole or some bends, it can make some noises while accelerating, but it doesnt effect performance. BUt these are easily repairable. If you were hit in the front and ur engine damaged, then for sure I would recommend to dispose of it quickly
ALthough, what happens in accidents, is that people tend to use this opportunity to buy a new one, or better one. So its up to u.

ok you are more than likely dealing with there insurance adjuster and not yours right? i would get a copy of the estimate you have now showing the damage they are going to repair and everything then take it to a big time body shop close to you and get another estimate. the prices will be diffrent but make sure they are doing the same repairs, the big time body shop will go over and want to repair every dent scratch you name it and if all the repairs and stuff are the same id get it fixed. but if the big time body shop says this car should be considered totalled then id tell the insurance company you just want a cash out. they will give you what your car is worth and take your wrecked one if its paid off if not then they will just pay it off and still take your car but id defenitly get a nother estimate before deciding one way or another

the way you describe it, the car is probably OK, but since it is an old car, and you get a nice chunk of money, why not sell the car as is, and buy yourself a newer model used cars, for instance I bought already several cars from hearst rental, and eventhough they are high milage, I am very happy with them.
